Crackpot of the Month for May: Al Qaeda Recruiter Pat Robertson.

This month's crackpot extraordinare is a shoe in, and will likely garner this honor many, many times.

Our honored douche bag this month is the venerable Pat Robertson.

While there is an almost unlimited number of crackpot ideas, statements, and beliefs that would qualify Reverend Pat for Crackpot of the Month honors, his role as one of the top recruiters for Osama Been Forgotten's little group of nutbags is what moves him to the top of the shit pile this month.

With the possible exception of President Bush, no one person's statements or actions has done more to give fuel to the rhetoric of Muslim extremists than Robertson. Damned near every time Robertson opens his stupid pie hole, he provides propaganda for Islamic terrorist groups all over the planet.

Throughout history the groups and individuals who were the most successful at recruiting people to their cause, were the people who had glaring examples of people and actions that proved their point.

Sometimes these examples were fabricated based on existing bigotries and fears, such as Hitler's use of anti-semitism as a springboard for his rise to power, or President Bush's use of fear and ignorance as ways to get support for the invasion of Iraq, and to weaken civil rights in the US.

But, more often, leaders had only to show glaring examples of the actions perpetrated by their foes as proof that things needed to change. One very good example of this was how Martin Luther King Jr. had the televised beatings of black Americans in Alabama as proof that what he was saying about racism and inequality in 1950's and 60's America being true. The national news coverage of the abuses of power and the ignorance of racism in the Southern United States did more to lend support to Dr. King than anything else could have.

Today, it is people like Robertson who are giving televised support to people that want to gain power and change through terrorism.

At a time when radical leaders like last month's top crackpot and terrorist leaders like Osama Bin Laden, and Abu Musab al-Zarqawi are using the US annexation of Iraqi oil fields as proof that the US is waging war on all Islam, idiots like Robertson start belching out stupidity like:

"And, ladies and gentlemen, if we had listened to what Adolf Hitler said in Mein Kampf, the West might have been prepared, and World War II would have been averted. We are not listening to what these guys say.

We are not listening to what not only the radical Muslims but Islam in general, we're not listening to what it says. And we don't believe it, because we say, 'Well, it isn't politically correct to believe that any religious group would do what they claim they are going to do.'

Well, you'd better believe them, and we'd better be prepared."

(from the April 24th edition The 700 Club)

And this is coming from the same moron who advocated assassinating Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez, and on the March 13th broadcast The 700 Club said:

Imagine one cartoon, one cartoon showing Mohammad with a turban with a missile out of it. I mean, we have stuff like that, that is vastly worse against our politicians all the time. It's part of free expression.

The fact that this elicited this incredible outpouring of rage just shows the kind of people we're dealing with. These people are crazed fanatics, and I want to say it now: I believe it's motivated by demonic power; it is satanic; and it's time we recognize what we are dealing with.

But, political correctness will not face one religious ideology with the strength of another because they don't have the strength of another. And, so, they're caving in before this vicious assault, and the goal of Islam, ladies and gentlemen, whether you like it or not, is world domination.

These people are saying it over there in Europe -- world domination. 'We're going to take over Europe. We're going to take over England. We're going to take over Denmark. We're going to take over France.' That's their goal! And, why don't we wake up to the fact of who we're dealing with?

And, by the way, Islam is not a religion of peace.

This guy might as well set up recruiting offices throughout the Muslim world, and hand out explosives. By putting Islam as a whole in the same category as Hitler, while at the same time advocating assassination as a means to solve problems, Robertson is saying "they are bad we should kill them all." This is no different than what Bin Laden has been saying about the West, and just look at the support his statements and actions have given to Bush for his agenda.

Granted, there are rednecks and other ignorant racists all over the planet saying stupid crap like this on a regular basis, but Robertson has his own television network, and his political power. These two things combined make him stand out, and can be manipulated by assholes like Bin Laden.

Robertson is not an official spokesman for the US or Christianity as a whole, but is Bin Laden the official spokesman for the Middle East or Islam as a whole? No he's not. Does it matter? No it doesn't, because all it takes is Bin Laden's words and actions, combined with a little political spin, a little lying, and bang!! President Bush is able to use Bin Laden as an excuse to invade any predominantly Islamic country in the World.

In a region of the world where US policy is quite easily seen as imperialism, and quite a lot like the Crusades, it would be easy for a lunatic like Bin Laden to use the words of fellow fanatic loonies like Robertson as a way to convince individuals who feel helpless and lost in the world of shit that they live in that everyone in the west is out to kill them, so they should strike first.

The next question might be: "How do we even know that Robertson's remarks make the news in the Middle East?" Well here is how he is viewed in an opinion piece from a leading English newspaper from Saudi Arabia:

"... . Robertson is typical of American racists who exploit the Arab-Israeli conflict for personal gain. Their support sustains American foreign policy and conservative leaders like President Bush.

In reality, Robertson and the Christian fundamentalists are worse than the Islamic extremists that they, Bush and other American conservatives constantly attack.

Robertson is a Christian zealot. His equivalent of suicide bombing is his suicide bombast. I am certain that if Christian fundamentalists in America were to ever find themselves in the same situation as the Palestinians, for example, they would defend suicide bombing as a justified form of combat."

(The really sad thing here is that the writer is probably right about his closing remark.)

If you do a search for Robertson on the website for this paper you get 55 results, and that's just for an English newspaper from a country trying to maintain good relations with the West. You get 8 results at Aljazeera's (satellite news channel out of Qatar) website, and there's no way for me to quantify it, but I am sure that his remarks make numerous Arabic papers all over the middle east, and that they are often represented as the opinions of every citizen in the United States.

I'm sure Robertson isn't losing any sleep over his aid to terrorism, because he, like President Bush, is safe and well protected in the multi-million dollar home that fear and ignorance bought him. However, if there was any true justice in the world, Robertson would be held accountable for propaganda, just as his power-through-fear and hate-predecessor,Joseph Goebbels would no doubt have been held responsible for propaganda.

Crackpot of the Month for April--Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad

Considering the number of crackpots to choose from, my choice for the inaugural Crackpot of the Month was a tough one. But given his obvious insanity, and hyper fundamentalist zeal and bigotry, I think Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad fits the bill of super-crackpot. Here is a man who seems to be inviting the annihilation of his people, and calling for genocide of another people--definitely crackpot ideas.

Over the last week Ahmadinejad has said:

"We won't hold talks with anyone about the right of the Iranian nation (to enrich uranium) and no one has the right to retreat, even one iota. ... Our answer to those who are angry about Iran achieving the full nuclear fuel cycle is just one phrase. We say: 'Be angry at us and die of this anger.'" April 13

"Like it or not, the Zionist regime is heading toward annihilation. The Zionist regime is a rotten, dried tree that will be eliminated by one storm." April 14

"The land of Iran has created a powerful army that can powerfully defend the political borders and the integrity of the Iranian nation and cut off the hand of any aggressor and place the sign of disgrace on their forehead." April 17

Granted, given the normal type of statements that leaders like Ahmadinejad make to the World, statements like this could be seen as posturing, and an attempt to invoke nationalism and support among his own people. But, usually you notice the international community shrugging it off somewhat, which shows that there are negotiations and such going on behind closed doors, so nutbag leaders like this can save face, and the rest of the World can be assured that it is just talk.

In Ahmadinejad's case, most of what he says seems to be an invitation to the World to attack him, and that is just plain nuts. It's one thing to repeatedly chant that you will defend yourself; it's a totally different thing to actively support terrorist attacks and say things like:

"There is no doubt that the new wave in Palestine will soon wipe off this disgraceful blot from the face of the Islamic world." Israel should be "wiped off the map." (from a statement last October praising a suicide bomber's attack in Israel)

It is especially crazy when you dare the US government to attack you at a time when our crackpot president is suffering from the lowest approval ratings of any president since Nixon during the Watergate scandal. While I, myself, would not support an attack by the US on Iran, ole' Axis-of-evil Bush is just begging for a reason to attack someone else, so he can get his support back from all of the morons who supported the war in Iraq.

This guy even has the French seeing eye to eye with the Bush administration. It takes a real douche bag doing something to get the French and Bush to agree on something.

This is also the guy who last year made headlines by proclaiming:

"Today, they (Europeans) have created a myth in the name of Holocaust and consider it to be above God, religion and the prophets. ..."

This statement not only brought condemnation from the World, but also from within his own country.

It really seems that this nutbag wants a war, so he can show how great and wonderful he is because he is standing up to the US and Israel. But, when you start making veiled threats to use nuclear weapons against other countries as a way to show how tough you are, you come across as a very dangerous Crackpot.

And the scariest thing about this idiot, is that, like so many Crackpots before him, he seems to think that he is doing God's work.

He believes that the end of the World is just a few years away, and that he is laying the groundwork for the return of the 12th Imam, Shi'ism's version of the Messiah. Anytime a leader starts having delusions about messianic work, he is definitely someone to keep a close eye on.

Chymera's Crackpots

This blog is an extension of Chymera's Dark Room, and is a place for me to profile some exceptional examples of stupidity from amongst the billions of people who call our planet "home."
